Minimize Body Roll in Your T2 Split Bay - Explore Uprated Anti-Roll Bars

The VW Splitty, with its higher centre of gravity and distinctive profile isn’t the best through sweeping corners, or tight changes of direction. However, an uprated Split Screen anti-roll bar will provide increased stiffness, reducing the tendency for ‘body roll’ when you are negotiating roundabouts or travelling and higher speed.  

T2 Split Rear Suspension

The VW T2 Split rear suspension is similar to that of a VW Beetle, although it employs the use of reduction boxes to assist with the gearing. These can be serviced and kept in place on original vehicles if required but should be removed if you are planning on installing a performance engine. 

It is well worth noting that reduction boxes reverse the direction of the gearbox, and as such, if you remove them you’ll be left with 4 reverse gears and 1 forwards! This can be rectified by flipping the differential in the gearbox, or fitting a Beetle Gearbox instead. 

Lowering the rear of VW Split Screen Bus

There are two common choices for owners looking to lower the rear of your T2 Split suspension. 

Straight Axle Conversion, which utilises a VW Beetle gearbox, but will give similar rear camber to a Beetle as the ride height is reduced. 

I.R.S Independent Rear Suspension, which can be done using Super Beetle (1302/1303) or Bay window components. This will keep the wheels sitting vertically in the arches, despite reducing (or increasing) the ride height.
