Buy your VW Beetle handbrake, gearstick and pedal parts here

At VW Heritage ‘hand and foot controls’ refer to all the manual functions you use to control your classic Volkswagen Beetle’s movement, with the exception of the VW Beetle steering wheel, which has dedicated pages within the Steering section. Here is where you will find parts for all three foot pedals (accelerator, brake and clutch), the VW Beetle handbrake and Volkswagen Beetle gear selector. Items such as indicator arms and dashboard switches that are used to control your Volkswagen Beetle’s electrical system can all be found in the VW Beetle Electrical parts section.

VW Beetle handbrake

A selection of VW Beetle handbrake parts – both stock replacement and styling – for your Beetle, ranging from sleeves and gaiters to complete chrome VW Beetle handbrake assemblies. We also stock a wide range of parts for the hub end of the Beetle handbrake system, including the hard to find lever arms and clips plus, of course, all types of VW Beetle handbrake cable for all years and models. We also stock adjustable length cable kits and Beach Buggy cable shortening kits for use on trikes and other custom projects.

VW Beetle gear selector

We stock both styles of selector parts – including complete Beetle gear shifters, balljoint/socket components – as well as high performance and ‘quick shift’ gear shifters such as the Beetle Hurst Shifter and Scat Dragfast shifter plus a wide range of Beetle gear knobs. We also stock parts for the entire selector mechanism, including VW Beetle gear linkage and bushes.

VW Beetle foot pedals

Though apparently simple at first glance, the combined Beetle pedal cluster is a marvel of engineering, combining the jobs of controlling the accelerator, brake and clutch into one tidy package. However, there are many small parts in VW Beetle foot pedals and VW Heritage stock everything you might require to rebuild your classic Beetle pedal assembly, from Beetle pedal rubbers through springs, circlips and lock rings to a range of VW Beetle accelerator cables, air cooled Beetle linkage kits and Volkswagen Beetle accelerator pedal repair kits.

All of this on top of the huge range of classic Beetle parts for the brake system as a whole, including discs, drums, pads, shoes, hoses, brake pipes and wheel cylinders. Plus we stock VW Beetle clutch cables and air cooled Beetle clutch cable conduits. In short, if you need a part for your VW Beetle hand and foot controls, you’ll find it here. If you have any questions about your VW Beetle clutch cable, Volkswagen Beetle accelerator cable or air cooled Beetle handbrake, or anything else to do with VW Beetle hand and foot controls, click on the ‘live chat’ button or call our sales team on 01273 444 000.

VW Beetle History

History of the VW Beetle

Due to the simple nature of the propeller coupling, the Kubelwagen could only use propeller power for forward motion, reversing was done by either rowing, or using the land wheels to slowly reverse the vehicle. Steering was controlled by the steering wheel on both land and water, with the front wheels acting as rudders when in boat mode.

The basic 4x4 system was only available to use in 1st gear (and on some models reverse). There was a third military variant of the Beetle, which was called the Kommandeurwagen, or Type 87. This was the rarest of the military models, reserved for German Military VIPs with only 669 rumoured to have been produced. The Kommandeurwagen was a hybrid of a 4x4 Kubelwagen and Beetle, using the Kubelwagen chassis, with a conventional Beetle body on the top.
