Do I need custom con rods for this crank, and or custom pistons?

Afternoon Andy,
It depends on what size barrels and pistons you want to use. The crank will work fine with stock con rods and pistons intended for a 69mm crank. But you will need a 3.5-4.5mm spacer under the barrel to achieve a good deck height for the piston. Also running a shorter rod like the stock one will give you added torque so that is ideal for a full weight car or a bus. If you planning on extending the rpm range of the motor then a longer rod (5.500") will help here, with just a 2-3mm spacer under the barrel. HP will also be slightly higher with a longer rod. In short stock rod, smallish cam (engle 110) = a good daily driver for a full weight car. Longer rod, slightly bigger cam (Engle 120ish) will be a little more aggressive.
But as far as the dimensions of the crank go, it uses stock VW beetle big ends and main bearings.
