Heretics On The Road x Type 2 Detectives: May 2023
This was a big day for us. Up until this point our Heretics enthusiast meetings had only ever been held at Heritage HQ. Today, however, we would take Heretics on the road for the first time, and our pop up Porsche and VW show would land at Type 2 Detectives near Cambridge. Here's how it went down!
Thanks to T2D
We should kick this off with a big thanks to Mark and Paul at Type 2 Detectives. We've known these guys for years, with our company Directors Barney, Paul, and Mark all growing up in the VW scene alongside them. So, when it came to asking some friends to lend us a sizeable yard to recreate our monthly gatherings, they were top of the list for good reason.
Not only do they have a big car park, but they also have an awesome showroom, a wicked workshop (where they host their educational bus boot camps), and a collection of amazing customer and personal cars they could call upon to get things started.

Thanks Continued...
Whilst our events only last for 2-3 hours we love to have a soundtrack playing in the background, and our thanks to the guys spinning the tunes (on vinyl) for us for keeping a rhythm going from start to finish.
Likewise, a shout to the catering staff and coffee wagon for ensuring no one went hungry (those were some serious burgers and fries) and everyone stayed awake after their prescribed caffeine hit!

Walkabout
One of the big reasons to take Heretics on the road was to meet new people and see 'new to us' cars. So wandering the yard and finding out what other enthusiasts have been working on, where they have come from, and whether we have been able to help them with their projects in the past was great. Here are just a few of the wonderful vehicles that turned up and caught our eye.

Porsche Spotting
Paul at Type 2 Detectives has a penchant for older Porsches, and brought along / dug out a a couple of his cars for all to see. A pair of slammed early 924's and a white and orange 914, for those who prefer an engine without water, mounted behind the driver. There was another 914 lurking in the workshop, not to mention a Boxster, 993, and my own 944 in the car park too.

Walkabout 2
Just like our gatherings back home, the car park was full of variety. When was the last time you saw a Mk3 Golf van, for example? Let alone on the same night as a Razor Edge Ghia and a trio of Type 3s.

People's Choice Award
One of the recent additions to the Heretics format has been giving out a People's Choice Award, and a bespoke trophy and goodie bag were packed into the van to give out to the car or bus that received the most votes. It was pretty closely fought, but the eventual winner was a lovely white Squareback belonging to a chap called Paul Chilcot.
A big congratulations from us all, a very worthy winner.

Thanks For Coming
Just as we started with thanks, we should finish with some words of gratitude to everyone who came along to Type 2 Detectives to join us for our first On The Road event. We loved meeting so many new people, and we hope you had a great evening out too.
From Left to Right: Andy (Marketing) Max (Tech Team) Barney (CEO) Steph (Marketing) Janice (Marketing) Brett (Customer Services).
A special mention to Dean (Goods In) for his photography.
