After the 'full contact' opening rounds at Brands Hatch which left a host of cars nursing injuries and worse, Mallory Park in Leicestershire played host for the next leg of the Heritage Parts Centre Formula Vee Championship. Lee went along to check it out.

Flat Out

Mallory Park is a circuit located around two central lakes and is the quickest on the Vee calendar. With long straights and sweeping corners, it makes for exciting racing at high speed - something that is enjoyed by drivers and spectators alike.

Lakeside

Not your typical race track view...

Drive safe, race fair

Racing isn't the cheapest hobby in the world, so after scrimping and saving to get your car to the grid the last thing you want is to be knocked out before the race ends. Should it all go wrong though, we stock a lot of parts for these single-seat race cars, as their aircooled engine, transmission, brakes and suspension is all shared with the VW Beetle.

Pit Life

The pit area over a race weekend becomes a pop-up village, with motorhomes and gazebos. This area is typically open to the public, so if you are at a race circuit over the summer, do take advantage of this and go and check out 'behind the scenes'. The drivers are a friendly bunch and usually happy to chat if you'd like to know more.

Do It Yourself

Regardless of whether you have built a car from scratch or you are campaigning a chassis with a proven pedigree, what unites the Vee paddock is getting dirty and doing jobs yourself. Most competitors arrive with a friend or family members to give them a hand, although there are a couple of specialist companies such as AHS and Bears Motorsport who prepare race cars and will deliver them to each race circuit too, which suits some drivers better.

Spectator sport

Unlike Brands Hatch, Mallory Park offers more in the way of unrestricted viewing opportunites around the circuit, without high fences or metal barriers spoiling your view (and photographs!)

In the lead...

Following the racing on Sunday,  Ian Jordan leads the championship as they head into the next round at Anglesey on June 15-16th. Stay tuned to our Facebook for details of how you could win tickets to go and watch yourself. You can find out more about getting involved in Formula Vee over on the 750mc website here. Andy
