VW T25 Front Disc Brake Parts

Driving a Type 25 is certainly a more refined experience than piloting the previous iterations of Transporter, and the braking system goes a long way towards that. With servo assisted front disc brakes on all T3 models, it’s just like driving a big, old car!

Of course, the brakes will only work well, if they are maintained, and looked after, and we have all the front brake parts for T25 you could ask for to ensure that is possible. 

VW Type 25 Front Brake Discs 

The T25 continued with the 5/112 PCD stud pattern that was introduced on the Bay Window models, but the brake disc itself does differ depending on the year of vehicle you have, and whether or not you need disc brakes for T25 Syncro or not. Protecting your brake discs from road debris and assisting with directing cool air to the calipers are the T25 brake disc backing plates. Generally, they’ll be in a pretty bad way after a lifetime getting covered in grime underneath your arches. If yours have rust holes, are bent out of shape, or missing in action, we can help!

T25 Front Brake Pads 

If you are replacing the front brake discs, then complete the job properly and do the front brake pads for T25 too. They’re not expensive and will help to improve braking efficiency. Don’t overlook the need for a fresh brake pad fitting kit either, as the clips and pegs are prone to corrosion, it all depends when they were last changed. Early T3 brake pads are the square ‘2 pin’ type and are most suitable for 1980-86 models. However, vehicles built from 1985 may also be fitted with a more modern style of T25 front brake caliper, the type which has a more contoured shape, with a built in spring clip. 

Always remember to ‘bed in’ your new discs and pads to prevent overheating and disc warping, which could lead to an unpleasant vibration under braking in the future. 

Restoring T25 Brake Calipers

Volkswagen fitted a number of T25 front brake calipers to their vehicles, so do double check what you have on yours before placing your order. We stock single piston and dual piston brake calipers for T25, and these are handed, so if you need to replace only one make sure you get the correct side. 

If the alloy body of your brake caliper is still in good useable condition, then you can replace the rubber piston seals with our T25 brake caliper rebuild kits. We can also supply the matching brake caliper carriers, should those be required too. 

Volkswagen T25 Front Brake Hoses

If you have gone to the extent of replacing the front brake calipers, then we would recommend doing the T25 brake hoses at the same time. Whilst the metal ferules on the outside can corrode causing concern come the annual inspections, it is equally important that the inside is in good shape to save brake calipers getting stuck on. As you would expect, there are a couple of choices, depending on years – so give your old Type 25 brake hoses a quick measure for peace of mind.
