European Barndoor Gathering: Photo Gallery

Trade Account Manager Aurelie has been back out on the road, exploring the VW shows of Europe from her home in France. This time, along with partner Nico, they took their Barndoor bus to Holland for the European Barndoor Gathering & Vintage VW Show.

Joining the Convoy

Aurelie and Nico have quite the collection of aircooled VWs, but there was only one choice for the 'Ben Pon Show' and that was Nico's Barndoor panel van. Leaving home on Thursday, they drove to Frankfurt, arriving around midnight, to catch the BugBus.net cruise that would be leaving the next morning. With 10 cars in total, they took to the streets and spent most of the day driving, before getting to Enschede in the Netherlands late in the afternoon.

You can find out more about the history of the bus, and its 'designer' Ben Pon, here.

Hangars and Runways

The show is organised by Niels Timmerman, editor and creator of the Airmighty Show, and as such the Barndoor event would share the same location. Although, this time around the event would be mainly outside, with the Barndoor Busses parked along the edge of the runway. That didn't stop the convoy participants from stopping outside the now iconic hangar 11 for a photo.

Global Interest

Aurelie has worked at Heritage for almost 15 years and knows a lot of people in the global VW community, and a great number of them were in Holland for this landmark event. It'll be another 4 years until they do it all over again and try once more to beat the record set in 2019. This time around they 'only' managed 89 Barndoors in attendance.

Vintage VWs Welcome

On top of the Barndoor busses, the show also welcomed owners of vintage aircooled VWs to join in the fun too. There were Beetles, Type 2s and even a Schwimmwagen.

Home Time

While many participants left the show on Sunday morning, Nico and Aurelie were practically escorted off the site as the show closed its gates at 4pm. With a 500km drive home they didn't get back until the early hours, but they are now busy planning their own Kronenbus show which will take place at the end of June and beginning of July, in their village in France.

Thanks for the pictures guys! Until the next time, see you both soon!
