Hi, this sender will work with the following VDO and Smiths gauges:
VDO; V310012, V310709, V310312, V310012A
Smiths; AC957056, AC957055

Please explain not suitable for 1700-2000 engines?

The Type 4 engine (1.7-2.0) is a different set up than the 1.6cc so wont fit on them
