Reviews & Ratings

KYB Excel-G shock absorber to suit:

Beetle 1966> Front
Karmann Ghia 1966> Front

KYB GR2 offer a firm sporty ride and precise control.. During testing by volksworld magazine KYB shocks came out on top for performance. These are gas pressured and medium to firm ride

It is very important to fit the correct length shocks to a lowered car. There must be at least 2 inches of up and down travel from the normal ride height. To ascertain what length you require you must measure the distance between the shock mountings on your vehicle after you have removed the existing shock. This must be done with the vehicle on its road wheels (not on a jack). Once you have measured you need to check it against the shock absorbers we list to see which ones you need.

Prior to fitting new shock absorbers always pump it through a few strokes the correct way up. This removes bubbles that may have formed in the fluid whilst in storage and improves the effectiveness.

Product Questions

On the standard height KYB Excel G front shock absorbers, can you tell me what the 440/335 denotes and how I can tell whether my car is standard height? Thanks, Nigel
Question by: Nigel Driscoll on 16 Sept 2021, 12:28 pm
Hi Nigel 440mm is the fully extended length of the shock absorber eye to eye and 335mm is the fully collapsed length eye to eye.
Best to measure your vehicles shock mounting point distance (bolt centre to bolt centre ) with the vehicle on the deck ie its normal ride height. You will need to find a shock that can offer at least 50mm of travel up and down from standard ride height measurement. Hope this info helps!
