The crankshaft oil thrower is fitted between the number 1 main bearing and the crankshaft pulley and plays a key role in controlling crankcase oil vapour. It is designed to deflect oil away from the pulley area, minimising the amount of vapour that can escape from the crankcase.
While the crank pulley provides its own defence against oil leakage, the oil thrower is a vital and often overlooked part of the system. During any engine rebuild, replacing or refitting the crankshaft oil thrower is essential to ensure proper oil control and long-term engine reliability.
