Is your Rabbit Mk1 Alternator Working Correctly?
Fed up with flat batteries, and always having to carry jump leads? Sounds like your Mk1 Rabbit alternator has stopped working and is no longer charging your car battery while you drive.
You can check for a faulty charging system quite simply with a multi-meter. It’s worth testing for a parasitic drain in the electrical system when the car is switched of too... This could be from the car radio, an alarm, or a light bulb you never knew you had!
VW Rabbit Mk1 Ignition Parts
One of the most common reasons for misfire or poor engine performance is down to the ignition system. Not the ignition switch itself, although we do sell those.
We mean the components that are involved with creating the spark to ignite the fuel within the combustion chamber.
Starting with the Mk1 Rabbit coil, typically mounted to the firewall or bulkhead. The coil generates the spark. If you have no spark, start your fault diagnosis here.
The Mk1 Rabbit Distributor is the next major component in the chain of events, and this houses the rotor arm and in many cases the points and condenser too. Although later models may be fitted with electronic ignition which replaces these antiquated contact breakers.
Rabbit Mk1 HT Leads or Ignition leads as they are often called, connect both the coil to the distributor and from the distributor cap to each individual spark plug, located in the cylinder head.
It is worth pointing out that should you own a Diesel model, you won’t have this system in place… instead you’ll just have Mk1 Rabbit glow plugs to worry about.
Rotor arms, distributor caps and spark plugs are common service items, and should be changed or at least inspected annually. Mk1 Rabbit ignition points may need adjusting every few months. This is a simple task although a little fiddly. You will need a set of feeler gauges.
Replacement Windscreen Wipers for Rabbit Mk1
Whilst your classic Rabbit may shy away from wet weather now, it was because of its abilities in all weathers that they became such a popular car in the first place.
So, don’t be worried should you get caught out in a down pour… As long as your Mk1 Rabbit wiper motor is up to scratch!
Should you have problems with your wipers Heritage are here to help. From replacement Mk1 Rabbit wiper linkages, through to wiper arms and washer jets plus all the nuts, bolts, washers and seals that are required for assembling the whole system again, should you have taken it apart.
