Ultimate Dubs 2022: Show Gallery

In short, the 2022 show opener Ultimate Dubs was a huge success. Naturally,  there was a big turnout from the VW and VAG crowd, and in keeping with recent years a whole heap of 'tag along' makes and models representing the works and wares of the many traders and businesses who were also in attendance.

Whilst this event creeps further from its namesake, dividing opinion on the way, there's no denying the efforts of the owners who spend all winter readying their vehicles for action, and congregate en masse for a weekend of polishing, photography, and partying.

Mk1 Golf Gallery

There were probably more Rabbit Mk1 models at the show this year than 10 years ago. The owners club were ever-present, with lineups both inside and out, and the variety and level of the builds continue to lift values higher, making the want even bigger than ever for all who saw them.

Retro Audi Awesomeness!

After the epic Audi 100 Coupe bagged best of show in 2020, there was some more old skool Ingolstadt metal on show rightfully enjoying their moment in the sunshine after spending years in the shadows of their other VW siblings.

Aircooled infiltration...

A few more Aircooled VWs slide into the show halls each year, and there was a handful of Type 3's along with a bunch of busses and some epic Beetles too. Like this? You'll Love Volksworld!

New Beetle Race Car

Whilst the 'new Beetle' has a cult following and was a favourite with the media when it launched, it's never really picked up traction at the mainstream VW shows in the way the classic aircooled version has. Having said that, occasionally an example will hit the scene and send everyone wild... Check out this Gran Turismo build. Wow!

The Million Dollar Scirocco

There were a few cars at the show hailing from the USA, and one which snaps necks wherever it goes is Jason Whipple's Mk1 Scirocco. The co-founder of wheel giants Rotiform teamed up with artist Nicolai Sclater who hand-painted all the graphics across the Giugiaro-styled body. With phrases like "things won't change until we do" and "the future is our fault" painted in amongst geometric designs, it's more than just another race car livery. It is a statement. It's a work of art!

Global Traveller

Unless you are brand new to the VW scene the name Jamie Orr will probably ring a bell. He's a global Volkswagen ambassador, and currently travelling the globe visiting shows and transporting cool as heck cars from one place to another. As well as being responsible for the Mk1 Scircoco importation, he also brought his own harlequin painted VW Atlas and parked it proudly and sqaurely on the Rotiform stand.

Mk2 Golf Goodness

Not wanting to be outdone by the original hot hatch there were some splendid Mk2 Golf examples on display too, including a retro-cool Hella kitted Type 19 example.

Moving on UPS

Ultimate Dubs isn't a van show, but just like the aircooled owners drawn to Telford twice a year (also for Ultimate Stance), they relate to what it's all about. Namely the best modified VW (and others) in the UK. We love a theme when it's done well and this UPS brown VW Eurovan was the full package...

Stowaway Show Cars

I hold a strong opinion on this... However, that's not to say I can't appreciate vehicles that don't wear my favourite badge. Here's a quick non-VAG interlude, before we get back to business. I must admit, I'm far more accomodating if they hail from the fatherland!

Porsche Presence

Skipping straight past my non-VW radar was this gorgeous 997, sat pretty much on its sills in the carpeted hall. You'll notice the 2020 show-winning Audi Coupe parked behind it. Check that out here

The Green Gallery

From a German law enforcement livery to a Mk1 Golf rally car, a smoothed 6n2 Polo and stunning Mk4 Golf. Green is certainly a great look in 2022 if you are considering a colour change.

Best of Show!

Picking up the coveted Best of Show prize was a 356 Outlaw that was sat upon the Auto Finesse stand. Beautifully built, and detailed to perfection, it had previously picked up best-in-show at the sister show Ultimate Stance at the end of last year too. Congratulations to all involved.

Sadly we couldn't make the show in person this year, so a big thanks to Martin at  Well Chuffed Media for taking these great photos on our behalf.
