Online Show 'n Shine: Round Three

As small hints of normality start to creep back into our lives post-lockdown, we found ourselves missing the shows, events and meets more than ever! So, due to popular demand we decided to host Round 3 of our Online Show 'n Shine competition on our social media channels!

THE ENTRIES

Round Three of our Online Show ‘n Shine competition saw hundreds of entries from the wonderful Volkswagen and Porsche community - we really were spoilt for choice, again! We saw a huge variety of of VW's including of course beautiful Beetles, gorgeous Golfs, sublime Splitscreens and pretty Porsches.

CHOOSING THE WINNERS

We really did have quite the task at hand with choosing just 5 winners from Round 3 of our online Show 'n Show competition. Our judges each chose a shortlist, taking into account the style of the vehicle, the photograph provided, the description given and the likelihood of each entry winning in a real life show. They then compared their shortlists and together chose our wonderful top 5 winners - we hope you love them as much as we do! Thank you to everyone who entered, don't forget to always tag us and show us your vehicles on social media!

TOP FIVE WINNER – HARRIET FULLER'S 1966 VW BEETLE

Affectionately known as 'Baloo' this is actually Harriet's second VW Beetle. The first was a red and cream one called 'Rea' - Harriet took her to be restored on the Isle of Wight (where Harriet lives) but unfortunately it got written off. Luckily an unpainted 1966 Beetle then came up for sale nearby so Harriet jumped at the chance! She was able to choose his colours and start work on him straight away, since being out on the road he's had his engine rebuilt from a donor and is now having a little TLC on the interior. You can check Baloo out on Harriet's Instgaram @baloothebeetle and even keep up to date with the work he's having done on her YouTube channel Baloo the Beetle.

TOP FIVE WINNER – BEN WELLS' VW T25

Ben purchased this late T25 back in 2005 for just £800 from a  friend who was about to have it scrapped. Ben had it sat in a barn for 8 years rusting away while the family grew until he decided it was time to restore it, about 3 years ago. He replaced the majority of the outer metal work and then set about this giant list... Full Hydro Suspension set up, Tubed Front arches and relocated rear mounts, 18” American Racing Wheels, Porsche Callipers with Drills and Grooved Disk set up, BMW Brake servo upgrade, Custom Magna Flow Exhaust, Square Headlight Conversion, Head Light Spoiler. It also has a custom interior with cooker, sink, pull out bed and storage alongside a Subaru EJ251 engine conversion with opened up barrels, oversized forged pistons, lightened cam, polished heads/ports and lightened flywheel. ...and then of course topped it all off with a finish in Jaguar Italian Racing Red

TOP FIVE WINNER – ALAN SPROULE'S PORSCHE 911

Information coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

TOP FIVE WINNER – SARAH TURNER'S VW GOLF GTI CABRIOLET

Sarah has owned 'Karma' since April 2003, he was originally her daily driver but after having some minor imperfections rectified, the alloy wheels refurbished and clipper kit resprayed, Sarah decided to retire him to a Summer car. She also painted the floor pan and wheel arches to help with preserving him. This gorgeous Golf GTI Cabriolet came over to the UK in September 1990 and was originally owned by a lady who lived locally to Sarah. She even remembers seeing him on the road before she ever even thought she would own him! The owner then popped 'Karma' up for sale just as Sarah was on her way to look at a Black Mk1 cabriolet. To this day he still has his original 8v engine, paintwork, interior and alloys! Sarah said "All in all, Karma is a really fun car to drive and never fails to make me smile"

TOP FIVE WINNER – SIMON THOMPSON'S 1967 VW SPLITSCREEN

Simon purchased this gorgeous 1967 VW Splitscreen back in 1995. The project then began with a major strip down in 1998, throughout the years it was subject to lots of body/chassis repairs, a complete re-spray (it used to be purple), a complete re-build, running gear upgrade, a new self build interior (a four month project) and suspension overhaul. The bus is no longer aircooled after it was modified with a Subaru 2.2L 145bhp engine - capable of cruising at 75mph it keeps up with most modern cars! The bus is used as much as possible for general days 'out and about' and for camping weekends. In 2008 it was even taken on a 2,021 mile round trip to the south of France which was featured in the 2009 January edition of the 'Volksworld Camper & Bus' magazine.
