Whilst the steering box design is functional, it is old technology and maintaining its condition is vital. It is possible to adjust it to remove some of the slop – but do not over tighten. Type 2 Splitscreen Track Rod Ends
Each track rod end features a ball joint enclosed by a rubber boot to protect it from dirt. However, the rubber perishes over time, and will eventually split allowing moisture inside. If left, the water ingress will cause the ball joint to seize, so it is imperative to check your T2 Split track rod boots on a regular basis.
Being adjustable in length, the Split screen track rods control the vehicle's tracking, determining the angle at which the wheels travel down the road. Addressing issues promptly is crucial for safety and passing MOT inspections, and to ensure good tyre longevity.

The intentionally large T2 Split steering wheel provides additional leverage for parking and manoeuvring in confined spaces, making it a popular choice among owners.
