Know your Volkswagen Bay Window Wheels

Before you buy anything, it is important to know what type of wheel you have on your 1968-1979 Bay Window bus. More specifically, what type of VW Type 2 Bay wheel bolt pattern. All Bay Windows built between 1968 and 1970 used the VW wide five wheel bolt pattern (that’s a 5-bolt wheel with a 5 x 205mm PCD (pitch circle diameter) and solid steel Volkswagen Type 2 wheels. When disc brakes were introduced in August 1970 (’71 model year), the Volkswagen Bay Window wheel bolt pattern changed to a smaller 5 x 112mm five-bolt pattern and ventilated wheels.

All European-built Type 2 Bay Windows through to the end of production used this style of wheel. Bay Window wheels are not interchangeable between the two models.

However, it's easy to fit other types of wheel using our range of Bay Window wheel adapters, which allow you to fit popular wheels such as Porsche Fuchs (5 x 130 PCD) wheels to your Type 2. Our chrome VW Camper wheels offer a finish better than most other ‘sunny climate’ chrome wheels, but we cannot guarantee the longevity of chrome Bay Window wheels in the British weather.
