Low temperature thermostat with housing. This thermostat opens at the lower temperature of 71°C (160°F), the standard thermostat opens at 83°C (181°F).
The lower temperature thermostat allows the water jacket around the engine block to operate at reduced temperatures which keeps the cylinders cooler and can reduce the risk of the engine cylinder bores becoming scored.
