Classics at the Clubhouse '22: Photo Gallery

We are spoilt in the UK with an active social scene surrounding our VW and Porsche-based hobby. In the summer months, there are events on most weekends, in-fact typically there are a few, and when we couldn't make it along to Classics at the Clubhouse in person we called upon Martin at Well Chuffed Media and asked him to do the honours... Over to you Martin.

Less is more!

It's becoming harder and harder for organisers to provide a unique event experience that draws in a decent crowd.  A lot of shows tend to cram as many activities into the event as possible, especially if it’s a weekend attendance, to keep everyone entertained. However, If your event is just a single day there is less pressure to try and please everyone, and as with lots of things in life, quite often less is more.

Check out our other event galleries here.

Golden opportunity

Classics at the Clubhouse, whilst it has only just had its second iteration seem to have hit a very nice balance of chilled vibes and cool motors. One key aspect is the venue, unusually being held on a beautiful golf course: Sandford Springs in Kingsclere. I can't recall having attended a car show at a place like this before, and that makes it pretty unique.

As is typical with high-end golf courses the grounds are beautiful and well kept making the backdrop for photos nice and clean. In the case of the Aircooled Edition of Classics at the Clubhouse, it also offers a few unique opportunities too.

Stars of the sand pit

Whilst you wouldn't want your ball to land in one, there were several bunkers where beach buggies and off-road equipped VWs had set up camp, which was a really nice touch.

The rest of the array of stunning metal work was laid out across a few fairways. With this being primarily an aircooled VW event there were a number of clubs in attendance and special vehicles were everywhere.

Engine Notes

These may be old, but that doesn't mean they are slow... There was plenty of horsepower between this pair!

Red Alert!

Red is well known to be the fastest colour, but there is an exception, and that is when it is applied to a tractor! Even Porsche tractors are slow, and records show it'll take over a minute for one of these agricultural classics to hit its top speed of 15mph. Still, they represent an affordable entry into vintage Porsche ownership, if you're not one for luxuries.

Like the good old days...

The organisers didn’t go in for every entertainment option imaginable and to be honest, it was all the better for it. They focused on a very high level of show vehicle, enough catering to keep everyone fed and watered, and relied upon the old school dubbers (and Porsche drivers) in attendance to make their own entertainment; many simply choosing to chill out on the grass with their families in the sunshine or catch up with friends and have a good old chin wag.

Blue, like the sea...

There were plenty of vehicles sporting blue bodywork, but here are just a few that jumped out infront of the camera. The Beetle van was fantastically turned out, Simon's Type 34 Ghia was rolling on new 'split rim' Gasburners, and there were a few bona fide 550 Spyders parked up for close inspection too.

Did someone say lunch?!!

Whilst you could spend hours looking at the stunning metal on show there was also a selection of trade stands in attendance and a number of catering vehicles providing hot or cold food and beverages for when you fancied a break.

The Second Coming

In a rare appaerance away from the drag strip, Alex Leiserach was in attendance with his 9 second Type 2 Pick Up truck. What a machine! Find out more about it here.

Grey Matters

If you prefer your classics with a more moody hue, then this grey/black collection will be for you.

So, in summary, Classics at the Clubhouse was a truly chilled event with a really cool atmosphere. We haven’t heard any news regarding the third iteration for next year, but be sure to look out for it, you won't be disappointed.
