Volkswagen T25 Engines & Engine Parts

Originally fitted with four different kinds of engine - both air and water cooled, care is needed when selecting engine parts. Type 25 CT Engines The T25 1600cc CT Engine is an aircooled flat four engine based on the original Beetle/Transporter aircooled engine. Whilst the capacity is the same, don’t assume that just because a part fits an old Beetle engine that it will naturally fit the T25 1600cc engine too. Volkswagen offered the 1600cc aircooled Type 25 engine between 1979 and 1982. T25 Type 4 Engines The VW T3 Type 4 engine is a larger displacement aircooled flat four motor, but it has little in common with the Beetle engine, except a broadly similar basic layout.

The 2 litre T25 engines fitted to Campervans and Caravelles had the engine codes CU, which was a carburettor version with hydraulic lifters but there was also a CV Type 25 engine which was the fuel injected version. There is a fair chance that your vehicle no longer has its original 2000cc Type 25 engine, and instead you may find other VW engine codes - CA, CB, W, AW, AP, ED, CJ, GD or GE - from earlier Type 4 series engines fitted instead.

Care is needed when ordering to make sure you get the correct parts that fit your Type 25 2000cc campervan engine. Sharing parts with the earlier Type 4 engines opens up the possibilities to create a performance T25 Type 4 engine should you wish to. Performance 2000cc T25 camshafts, crankshafts and larger CU engine pistons and barrels are just some of the Type 25 CU engine tuning options we can supply.

Type 25 VW Waterboxer Engines

The Waterboxer engine is a watercooled derivative of the aircooled flat four Beetle engine and was ever only fitted in Type 25s. Originally launched as a 1900cc Type 25 engine in 1982, it was joined by a 2.1 litre waterboxer engine version in 1985 which had the added benefit of fuel injection as standard Often referred to by their engine codes the 1900cc T25 engine is commonly recognised by a DG prefix, but also came in EY, DF, SP, DH and GW variations typically for different markets, the DH and GW 1.9 watercooled T25 engine came with Fuel Injection as standard, the others would have been supplied with twin T3 carburettors. Whilst the ‘watercooled’ element had obvious benefits for keeping engine temperatures in check, there are many poorly serviced examples out there, which is why we stock so many T25 WBX engine parts. Top end rebuilds are not uncommon, especially where water jackets have corroded, typically due to the incorrect coolant being used. We supply full WBX gasket kits to help when it comes to rebuilding waterboxer engine parts

Volkswagen T25 Diesel Engines

The Type 25 diesel engine is a watercooled inline four cylinder engine and is very similar to the diesel motor found in Golfs of the same era. This is a relaible, but not especially powerful engine in standard form. The first VW T3 Diesel engine appeared in 1981, and then later a Type 25 turbo diesel model was offered in August 1984, for the 1985 model year. The normally aspirated version came as a 1600cc CS code in 1981-87 and then as a 1700cc KY code in 1984-92. The T3 1600cc Turbo Diesel was a JX code, and was offered in 1984 through to 1992.
