Volksworld Show 2022: Photo Gallery

It had been three years since the doors of Sandown Park were last opened to the classic VW community, but finally, we were back at the Esher racecourse to make up on lost time.

Did the show live up to expectations? Absolutely, in fact, it was probably better!

A big thanks to everyone who came and saw us on the stand, placed an order, took a selfie or even waved as they ran past in a rush. If you were at the show, consider this a recap, and if you missed it, here's how good Volksworld 2022 was!

Under one roof!

Whilst there is plenty going on outside, it is the fact that Volksworld is an indoor show that really sets it apart. It's an exhibition, there's carpet and chequered flooring, and these vehicles become art objects for us all to enjoy for 48 hours.

The Heritage Show!

As headline sponsors for the sixth show in succession, we were keen to make sure our support could be seen all over the showground. We had a few comments about our penchant for banners and flags, but that means you noticed them, right?!

The Dolls Box

Rather than park a car or van on our stand this year we decided to have a little fun and commissioned a custom VW enthusiast-themed dolls box selfie booth. Equipped with oversize tools, show goers could stop by for a silly snap, and be in with the chance of winning up to £500 off their next order. We managed to drag a few familiar faces in for a photo too - Thank you Paul Knight (Volksworld magazine editor) and Ben and Sam from NutJobDotCom

Look at me!

There were so many amazing cars and buses on show it was tricky to know where to start. But, here are just a few 'stars' that couldn't be ignored whilst walking around. Let's begin with the white Cal Looker that kick-started the movement on the iconic Hot VWs cover; the Jim Holmes / Greg Aronson car. Then a handful of vehicles from the Spike's Vintage Restoration workshop, including the epic pink 'Jeckyl and Hyde' Ghia, plus we should mention a pair of practically perfect Barndoor busses from Irvs's Resto Shop too.

Heretics parking

Outside we had our Heretics club display, which featured a different lineup of customers' and friends' vehicles each day. And what a selection we had. A big thanks to Assheton, Matt from Beetlelink, Simon, Ben from Nutjob, and Simon for bringing their cars down on day one, and Ollie and Gez, Mitch, Phil, Jamie, and Jason for supplying an equally stunning set for the event on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who offered to bring their vehicle along, sorry we didn't have space for you all.

A special congratulations to Simon for scooping the Show and Shine trophy on Saturday with his gorgeous ragtop Type 3 Squareback.

Let's go shopping!

Whether it was at the swapmeet upstairs or outside in the marketplace there were deals to be done on new and used parts, merch, stickers t-shirts and even toy cars. Here's just a few of the sights.

Cal Look Corner

Another collection we were chuffed to put our name to was the Cal Look corner. Organised and curated by Martin Greaves, it brought together 14 vehicles demonstrating the evolution of Cal Look over time. Starting with a Fiat 600 with a hot VW engine hanging out the back and taking in pre-cal through to some more modern takes on the look too. One vehicle (1964 VW, yes that is the registration) had been 40 years in the making, and the owner only drove it for the first time from the trailer into the show!

Travelling Back in Time!

The nostalgia for VWs from days gone by has never been greater and there was a massive turnout of 'B289' cars representing the roots of the UK custom Volkswagen scene. The colours were so vibrant and the graphics and modifications equally as bold. Targa tops and roof chops and smoothness all over. And check out those shorts.... Love it!

Engine Details

They all had them, but here are just a few that caught the lens of our roving photographer. Need aircooled VW engine parts? You're in luck!

Porsches etc...

It was the strongest turn out for the Stuttgart brand at any Volksworld show I have known. Which, being a Porsche nerd was great! Check these out - including the lunacy that is Richie King's 'lightest 911 ever' which has been blessed with hundreds of weight-saving holes to improve its power to weight ratio. Not sure I'd trust myself to make them look that neat...

Karmann Ghia's Galore!

The following for the prettiest Volkswagen ever made goes from strength to strength demonstrated by a fantastic turnout from the owners club, not to mention numerous jaw-droppers parked in the show itself too. We even spotted an EV converted coupe parked out the front!

Patina and Vintage Signwriting

Such is the diversity of the show, it's only fair we shine spotlight on the vehicles which have survived, rather than been fully restored. Still equally as cool, but they wear their battle scars with pride. Here's some patina favourites that made us smile.

Interior Details

There is so much that be done to the interior of a classic Volkswagen, and with a mixture of metal, paint, material and more these beauties all caught our eye. Perhaps they'll serve as inspiration for your Porsche or VW interior project?

Buses in the sunshine

Whilst there may have been less busses than in previous years, they were certainly not lacking in quality. Also great to see more Type 25s within the showground - their time has come, buy one now before it's too late!

The Wheels

Along with the usual suspects, Fuchs, EMPI 5 spoke and 8 spoke wheels there was plenty of variety tucked beneath the arches of the vehicles on display, many sporting a Porsche crest. Here's just a taster.

The Coachbuilt Specials

Of course, there are many differences between the Dannenhauer & Stauss and the Okrassa special but they also share similarities as they utilise Volkwagen underpinnings and have an aircooled engine positioned behind the driver. Whilst the vintage coach-built cabriolet scooped a coveted Top 20 prize, it was the mid-engined race car that stole my heart, having read all about but never seen it in the flesh.

Terrific Transporters

Now a regular occurrence, the rearmost part of the showground is given over to watercooled Transporters. If you love T4s, T5s and T6s this place would have been like heaven. There was even a sneaky Golf with a roof tent and a couple of Crafters representing too.

On Reflection

As this fifty-strong photoblog will illustrate, Volksworld was an epic show, and we've still got so much more to share with you. However, we couldn't leave this installment without mention of mirrors ... I've never seen so many at a VW show. The underside of some of these cars was just as good as the top! No prizes for guessing which car this engine and exhaust belonged to!

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more!
